Five Tables in Hapjeong

Went to Five Tables in Hapjeong with mum & sister
It's a very small & cosy pasta place with just five pretty tables

Everything we ordered tasted excellent, including the free pieces of bread for entrée

loved the home-cooked feel

making jaaaaaaaam

i made jam with Bokbunja - i've never seen this fruit in Australia so i looked up in the dictionary to find out what it's called.. and it says Robus coreanus fruit.
It's got a very nerdy name (so i'll stick to Bokbunja), but the fruit is actually very tastey. They look like blueberries.

I used about a kilo of Bokbunja and half a kilo of raw sugar.. or more. i actually don't have a recipe. so i don't know how to make jam. so this was a purely creative process.

i left it for an hour so the sugar can suck all the juice out of bokbunja.

in the meanwhile i boiled the jars to kill the evil germs.

and then i added heat to bokbunja, stirring it all the time. this went on for more than an hour. just when i couldn't feel my arm, i added some lemon juice. (3 lemons)

and you boil and stir for another half an hour or so until the texture comes close to this.

my jam doesn't have that gooey-ness or the jelly-ness but it spreads fine.

So I was very happy after hours of work
BUT!! it turns out that this bokbunja fruit is full of tiny but extremely hard seeds.
so when mum tried it she nearly broke her teeth.

oh well.
i've decided that i would swallow all the seeds and enjoy my jam.

how to exercise in summer

i took a walk along Han river with mum a few days ago
the view was beautiful. but would have been better without twenty thousand mosquitos and moths.
we walked for about 2 hours and burned a million calories

and then we went into a cafe at Jamsil Daegyo (bridge) to reward ourselves with a bowl of Pabbingsu (snow cone! or more like snow bowl.. with red bean paste and lots of nuts and ricecake(mochi) and milk and espresso poured all over it)

so we probably ended up consuming four million calories at 11pm but it was worth it!

Jukdo market in Pohang

on my last day in Pohang we visited the largest market, the Jukdo market, which is full of completely random stuff:

and loads of fresh foods:

and random men delivering stuff on bicycles:

addictive rice and corn snacks!

a woman shopping in her beautiful Korean traditional dress, Hanbok

and some exquisite beans:

and chilli peppers. just looking at them makes my eyes, mouth AND nose water

this stall sells pumkin and red bean porridge and some other noodle dishes, and we're an old regular.

the lady who runs this stall is SO generous she always gives us so much food for free. and that day she served us four bowls of noodle soup and two kinds of kimchi all free of charge.

People in Pohang are extremely generous. When you buy something they'll give you double the amount of what you order. In less than 50,000won (USD$50) we were able to buy 4 different kinds of vegetables and pickles, and about 8L(yes, 8 Litres) of pumpkin and red bean porridge which is still sitting in my fridge, and some rice cakes.

WADDA BARGAIN!
